How to be more productive using time blocking (When you don’t feel like it)

How to be more productive

Ever have a moment where you know you need to be productive but you just don’t feel like it? Where you want to get things done but just can’t bring yourself to do it?

Maybe it’s just the way I’m wired? Maybe I am not made to be productive?

Wrong.

Everyone is designed for productivity. The problem is, we’re not taught. We were never shown how to be more productive.

It’s not something we learn in school. We learn all this information but aren’t taught the essential skills of productivity.

That is what we are going to lay out in this post.

By the end of this post, you will know EXACTLY how to be more productive with 1 single strategy.

I’m going to show you what my process looks like and take you behind the scenes so make sure you stick around until the end of this post.

So without further a due, let’s get into it.

This is a strategy I have been using for years. A strategy that I see the most successful people that I have met & look up to use.

This strategy is so simple that once you get used to it, it will feel weird not doing it.

The strategy is time blocking but it’s not what you think.

Because a lot of people say they time block, but they are doing it all wrong.

They write on a to-do list, I’m going to do work, then I’m going to eat, then workout, then read.

That’s not time blocking. That’s random.

Time blocking is where you use your calendar. If you don’t have a calendar set up, I suggest you take this opportunity to set one up.

I use apple calendar, I really like the interface, but google calendar is great, any calendar app will do.

Then, you’re going to set colours to your different categories.

This alone boosts your level of productivity, if you want more on that make sure to google ‘color psychology’ It is fascinating stuff.

So I have speaking, family and friends, gym and food, daily rituals,

It is packed from 6am to 10pm every single day. Weekends I have a 7am start. There is absolutely no white space.

White space is not your friend. It’s the enemy. It will KILL your productivity.

So define your categories and start filling it in.

What I do to make sure I do this is I have a recurring event every Sunday that is ‘PLAN WEEKLY CALENDAR’

Every Sunday I sit down, with a beautiful latte and plan out the week ahead. This gives me a snap shot of exactly what is going to happen throughout the week and all of the things I want to get done.

Doing this provides so much clarity on how to be more productive because it shows you all of the gaps in your day.

It shows you all of the places in your day where you have more time.

When I did this for the first time, I easily found a few extra hours a day.

What could you do with a few hours a day? What could you do with a few extra hours a week?

The possibilities are ENDLESS.

Once you have set up your calendar with colours and are ready to rock.

Set an alarm on your phone, sometime in the morning to check your calendar.

At the beginning this is going to be challenging, but as time goes on, it’s going to get easier and easier.

After a week, you won’t even need your phone alarm to remind you, you’ll just check naturally.

My calendar has become an essential part of my life, it has become an essential part of my day when it comes to getting things done and being more productive.

Set up your calendar and get into the habit of checking it regularly.

It will change the game when it comes to your productivity.

Until next time, keep creating an epic life.
